The Singapore Employment Pass (EP) is a professional work visa designed for foreign professionals, managers, executives, and specialists who wish to work in Singapore’s thriving business environment. Issued by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), the Employment Pass is a popular choice for skilled individuals seeking opportunities in one of Asia’s most dynamic economies.

Applying for an Employment Pass is a detailed and competitive process. Applicants must secure a job offer from a Singapore-registered company and meet minimum salary requirements. The process involves preparing comprehensive documentation and is assessed under the COMPASS points-based framework. Applications typically take up to three weeks to process, but any errors or missing information can lead to delays or rejection.

The Singapore Employment Pass (EP) offers a comprehensive suite of benefits designed for foreign high-level or specialised professionals who wish to work and live in Singapore.

Here are the full advantages of holding an Employment Pass:

Enhanced Career Opportunities

No Foreign Worker Levy: Employers do not pay the monthly foreign worker levy for EP holders, unlike S Pass and Work Permit holders.

No Quota Restrictions: There are no quotas or dependency ceilings for EP holders, so employers are not limited in the number of EPs they can hire.

EP is designed for highly skilled professionals, managers, and executives, allowing you to hold senior roles not accessible with S Pass or Work Permit holders.

The lifted levies and quota restrictions for employers will make E Pass holders significantly more incentivising for employers to hire, resulting in enhanced job prospects.

Family Privileges

EP holders can sponsor Dependant’s Passes for their legally married spouse and unmarried children under 21, allowing the EP holder to bring his/her family to live in Singapore together.

EP holders can also sponsor LTVPs for common-law spouses, stepchildren, handicapped children, and, with a higher salary (S$12,000/month), their parents.

As compared to other work passes, S Pass and Work Permit holders generally cannot bring family members unless they meet stricter criteria or are not eligible at all.

Visa Flexibility & Travel Privileges

EP holders can travel in and out of Singapore freely without needing additional entry visas, making business and personal travel more convenient.

As compared to other work passes, EP holders do not require separate re-entry permits for each trip.

Enhanced Access to Banking & Financial Services

EP holders have access to a full range of banking services, including opening savings, current, and investment accounts at most banks, while Work Permit holders are often limited to basic accounts.

Additionally, EP holders are more likely to be approved for personal, car, and housing loans than S Pass or Work Permit holders.

Eligibility of Property Ownership

EP holders can purchase private property (subject to certain restrictions and higher stamp duties for foreigners), whereas Work Permit holders face more limitations.

Pathway to Singapore Permanent Residency (PR)

EP holders are eligible to apply for Singapore Permanent Residency, which comes with even more advantages as compared to holding an Employment Pass

Entrepreneurial Rights

EP holders can be directors or shareholders in Singapore companies, and may start their own business (subject to MOM approval).

Career Mobility

EP holders can change employers (with a new EP application), and are not tied to a specific company or sector, unlike Work Permit holders who are often restricted to one employer and sector.

Prompt Notification to MOM on changes to personal particulars

ONE Pass holders must promptly notify MOM within two weeks of any changes to their personal particulars. This includes updates to their residential address, name, passport number, passport expiry date, marital status, or nationality. Keeping these details current is essential for compliance and ensures that all official communications reach the pass holder without delay.

Meet Minimum Salary and Eligibility Requirements

You must continue to meet the minimum qualifying monthly salary and other eligibility criteria throughout your employment. If your salary or job scope changes significantly, these must be reported to MOM.

Work Only in Approved Role & Company

ONE Pass holders are required to submit an annual notification to MOM detailing their professional activities and total annual salary earned in Singapore during the previous year.

This annual reporting is mandatory and helps MOM assess whether the pass holder continues to meet the high standards expected of ONE Pass recipients. The information provided is also used during the renewal process to determine ongoing eligibility.

Work Only in Approved Role & Company

You must work only for the employer and in the job role specified in your EP application. Any changes in employer, job title, or significant job scope must be reported to MOM and may require a new pass application.
